Frequently Asked Questions
Q Why is patchouli essential oil in so
many of your scents?
A Patchouli essential oil acts as an anchor to
enhance and extend the scent life of other essential oils that
can fade over time, especially volatile citrus oils. It's
used in very small percentages and with exception to Aegean
Mint, it isn't noticeable in the other scent lines.
Q I need a heavy cream
for my eyes. Do you make an eye cream?
A It's a common
misconception that one needs a heavy or rich cream for the eye
area when actually, the skin around the eyes is incredibly
thin and incapable of fully absorbing anything too heavy.
This is why you'll sometimes see small, hard white bumps
around the eye area, called milia. Most eye creams are
heavy/thick due to added waxes and thickeners, which don't
really enhance moisture, but do make for a nice, rich texture.
Obviously, someone with very dry skin will be able to tolerate
a richer cream in the eye area, but even then, a lightweight emulsion
with good quality emollients is all that's needed.
Otherwise, anything that's unable to be absorbed will sit on
the skin and block pores or migrate towards the eyes, wreaking
havoc on your mascara and causing oily eyelids. Red
Raspberry Seed Lotion (formerly Red Raspberry Serum) is ideal
because it's so lightweight, yet has a nice balance of water
(for dehydration) and emollients (for lack of naturally occurring
sebum- the oil our skin produces to keep it moist and healthy)
and won't clog pores or cause milia. The high ratio of
antioxidants is fantastic for the eye area too, both for
preventing lines/wrinkles and healing sun damage that cause
further wrinkling.
If
you try Red Raspberry Seed Lotion around the eyes and it feels
good, that's great and you're all set. If your eye area
still feels pulled or taut after applying Red Raspberry
Seed Lotion, then you may need something a little more
emollient. We recently introduced Organic Pomegranate
Silky Serum and it's a nice way to add a bit of emollience
without heaviness or waxiness. Just a drop mixed in with
a bit of Red Raspberry Seed Lotion will do the job and give an
even higher boost of antioxidants. Orchid Flower Cream
or Sugar Cane Cream are also fine but should be used sparingly
around the eyes since they are a bit more emollient.
With any product used around the eye area, warm it on your
fingertips slightly first, then apply gently to the orbital
bone around the eyes. Never apply an eye cream up to the
lash line, it can make your eyes feel oily.
